Dream. Create. Inspire

I am not too fond of this, but it is the post that received the most “likes” on my wordpress account. Thus, I suppose it might appeal to some of you. I don’t consider myself a poet AT ALL, but for whatever reason, I spent a lot of time writing like I was.

LOVE SONG FOR NO ONE

Wasting away into the deep, dark abyss.
Suddenly acknowledging it’s you that I miss.
Slipping further and further, soon to no return.
I’m grabbing at strings, almost feeling the burn.
The walls closing in, my head in the dirt.
Remembering again, all the pain and the hurt.
One last ditch effort and I fall to the ground.
I call out your name but you’re nowhere around.
So engulfed in your memory, a slow seamless death.
Attacked by the images of you in my head.
Soaking into this heartache, I begin to feel numb.
Realizing too late, that you were the one.
You gave my life reason, I fell so in love.
I’m wasting away, thought I’d given enough.
Still this fire is burning, I’m surrounded by flames.
Trying hard to escape these emotional games.
I’m stuck on the past and all that we had.
The good times surpassing all of the bad.
And suddenly I’m here with nowhere to run.
Trying to deny the reality that those days are now done…

[OCT. 26. 2008]

Posted a few old poems I wrote. Still slowly trying to NOT hate sharing things I’ve written. Thus, so far I have only posted things I wrote when I was younger because I’d like to think I have grown a lot more as a writer since then. Nonetheless, please feel free to follow me on that blog and/or leave any comments or feedback.

Thanks!

I have decided to use my original blog on wordpress as the main site for all my work. It had always been my intention to use that one as a sort of online portfolio. I am finally getting around to putting it together. Hopefully all of you following me on tumblr, will continue to follow me on there. You don’t even need to be a wordpress member to do so. I will still keep this blog for things unrelated to my portfolio. Thank you to everyone who have been supporting and following me…I hope you continue to join me on this journey :)

Ever since I heard him perform “A LOVE POEM” last year, he has become one of my favorite poets. TOPoetrySlam needs to get him down here for a feature…please & thank you.

[Rudy Francisco - Scars/To The New Boyfriend]

“Cupid is fucking irresponsible. And I’m tired of him using me for target practice.”

Ugh. Can he marry me already?

Hands down, one of the greatest experiences of my life was attending a New York City poetry slam in November 2012. I’ve been to several in Toronto over the past year, and as talented as everyone in this city is…There was just something about sitting in The Nuyorican Cafe, in the city of my dreams, surrounded by people who share the same love of spoken word, and being so privileged to be in the presence of all these amazing poets. I can’t explain it. Words cannot express the poetic ecstasy I felt when leaving that venue. If you’re ever in NYC & want to feel inspired…hit up the Nuyorican, located in the lower East Side. As far as I know, they hold poetry slams on Wednesdays and Fridays. I promise it’ll change your life…

On that note, the video posted above is of the Feature poet from the NYC slam I attended. This wasn’t recorded from that particular event, but it is one of the poems she performed that night.

[Falu - 10 Things I Want To Say To A Black Man]

I know I’ve been M.I.A from here for a while. But this poet/poem definitely needs to be seen/heard. It’s been awhile since I’ve been so moved by someone’s words. Please take the time to watch this. I promise it will be worth your while.
